Day To Night

Wednesday 6 October 2010

or two ways to wear a H&M skater dress...

For work:
Dress - H&M
Cardi - Matalan (think this needs to go as it's not doing anything for me - didn't realise it was so shapeless)
Pumps - New Look (not as baggy as they seem to look here)
Scarf - vintage, very beautiful, and courtesy of the wonderful
Vix

Then cardi off, scarf off (didn't want to spill dinner on it!), hair up, makeup on, different jewellery and I was good to go for dinner with some pals.

I may have no neck but I've got collarbones now, woo hoo!

Dress & pumps - as before
Ring - Primark
Necklace - present from the fabulous
Char

A little bit plain for dinner perhaps but it wasn't a grand sort of dinner party, just a lovely chatty evening with friends. Heels aren't really appropriate as the host & hostess live in the place where I work and stilettos aren't allowed for conservation reasons. Good view from the spare bedroom though!

  3. It's like the perfect dress! So versatile. I'm very jealous. Do they have other colours? How much is it? How tall are you? (I'm thinking length-wise on me - because that length is perfect really - long enough for work but short enough to not feel frumpy) How many more questions can I ask?!

I LOVE your New Look shoes - gorgeous colour. And I love the way the necklace ties in with the colour :) I am a fan of co-ordinating details like that. Sad that I am!

  5. You look absolutely beautiful! What a versatile dress. I love your jewellery in the night look, but I actually really like your cardi (have you thought about belting it if you think it is shapeless - not that I agree with you though?) and scarf too. Lush all round

  13. Thanks for getting back to me :)

We are well & truly jumper twins then, because I also have the blue & the 'neutral' - they're great, such a good buy! I'm slightly obsessed with the Tesco site at the moment - placed ANOTHER order with them at the weekend :/ But their stuff's so lovely, & such good prices, I just cannot resist!

I am now highly disappointed, as your dress that I was so excited about, would be too short for me :(
Well, when I say too short - I'd still wear it. And to be honest, I may still have to get it anyway.. But it'd be too short for work. So wouldn't be as versatile as I first thought.. Oh well!

  14. Absolutely top notch styling there Alex! I adore skater dresses but they are a bit little girl on my 5'11". The scarf (so pretty) looks great, I'd never have thought to put it with that outfit but it's perfect =)

  16. Dear Alex, I've often had my picture taken in something I'm comfortable in, seen them, then binned it. Some things only work from one angle.

The black dress looks gorgeous on you. Loving the collarbones, the ring, and the view xx

  18. I'm all in favour of places that specifically require you NOT to wear heels.

Also. Hurray for seeing collarbones!! I thought mine had disappeared for good but they're just making a reappearance now.

Love that ring, need to get my arse back to Primark, haven't been in ages.

  20. Get you with your collarbones! :)

Love the ring, and thos pumps are a lovely colour.
Great to see a dress worn two ways, I have one of these but rarely wear it during the day as thought it was too dressy. No more!

Ooh love the dress! I need to not read blogs when I'm skint though, dying to rush to the shops now! :(

I was about to comment on your skinny collarbones even before I scrolled down and saw you'd mentioned them! You look brill! xx

  23. Looking good Alex! I really love the evening outfit. Where do you work? And thanks for the comment on my last post, I was surprised I could draw anything other than a stick figure without a base to start an outline from. xxx

  24. Love the scarf, and I wouldn't ditch the cardi just yet as it is a great colour on you - just make sure you wear it open rather than done up. I always find that cardigans look weird on me if I do up the buttons. Seems beside the point I know, but if you have two bits draping down the side it is nice and slimming. And you can always chuck a belt around it if you want to emphasise your waist.

  25. Love it both ways :) Gorgeous Primark ring!

  26. Don't bin the cardi just have a play around with it-all the ideas already written above-I think the colour looks fab on you.
Snake ring...ooo, don't like the real thing but that's cute. We occasionally see Alan Moore, (author of V for Vendetta and Swampthing), in town, and he has some serious snake stuff; rings and a silver top on his walking cane. But then he does worship a snake-god!
Eregon is on TV again, and also Kiss of the Dragon!!

  27. I LOVE skater dresses, they're so flattering on the boobs (nip me in and create a waste, man I'm starting to sound like Gok!) The autumnal shoe picture made me smile, I'm so happy it's getting chillier! jazzy ♥
